Sirane to expand its supplier of Olympic cake boards | New

Packaging business Sirane is looking to further develop its plastic-free offering following the acquisition of Gloucestershire-based carton maker Olympic.

Based just outside of Stroud, Olympic produces cake boards, salmon boards, u-shaped cards, pouches and sandwich boards which are supplied through distributors and direct sales. It has been operating from the same site for over 60 years and was owned by founding family members prior to the acquisition.

Its product line is based on fibrous cardboard products, many of which are compostable and recyclable, explained Simon Balderson, Managing Director of Sirane.

“This acquisition is a strategic step for Sirane in order to enrich and improve our product offering in new areas of the food industry.

“In particular, it supports our continued development in plastic replacement technology for all types of food. We plan to expand this product line, using our Earth Packaging banner, to all areas of food packaging that currently use laminate and laminate panels.

Sirane intends to develop the business and expand the portfolio of products manufactured in what will be Sirane Stroud.

This will include a new eco-friendly, plastic-free Earthwedge sandwich pack that will combine recyclable panels with Sirane’s plastic-free coated papers.

“The result is a sandwich wrap, with a window, that provides the required barrier, but is completely plastic-free,” Balderson added. “Earthwedge will remove a lot of unnecessary plastic from the supermarket shelves.

“This will be the first of many innovative new products that combine existing Sirane technology with card processing operations at Olympic.”
