Crisp shortbread cookies, smooth and creamy caramel all covered in sweet milk chocolate – yes, I’m talking about one of my all-time favorite chocolate bars, Twix. Ah but wait! Let’s take a sentence from the great chef Emril Lagossi and take it up a notch!

I added one of my favorite candy bars to an already incredibly tasty and moist French vanilla cake. This has caused quite a stir among the people I have chosen to be my guinea pigs and my company, Da Munchie Plug LLC, has had a few other orders since then.

I first made Snickers candy bar cake for my kids when they were younger, and it has been a hit with me ever since. That’s why I always encourage you to be adventurous. You never know what masterpiece you could create.

After baking this shortbread, caramel and chocolate cookie in a soft and chewy French vanilla cake topped with vanilla or pecan butter ice cream, you won’t want to eat another dessert for a while. I prefer to serve it lukewarm but it is not necessary.

I cover the cooled cake with my homemade caramel and homemade chocolate frosting. I’m not one for sweets but when a sweet tooth hits me this cake really hits all the places.

You might think it’s weird or out of the ordinary, but I’m saying don’t hit it until you’ve tried it. I’m sure many others have their own versions, but this is what I have found to be successful after years of making the other candy bar cake.

You can definitely experiment with any of your favorite candy bars. I even tried the Andies mint chocolate bar. It was also a success! Pairing the right candy bar with the right cake flavor makes all the difference. I was once asked to bake a lemon cake with caramel frosting, so I guess you just have to follow your own taste buds.

I like to make creative and tasty food because, well, why not?

Have fun making this Twix cake, or whatever your favorite candy bar is, and enjoy eating it with your family and friends. Plus, with the start of the school year, it would be a great dessert to share while you hear all about your child’s day at school.

Now let’s roll up our sleeves, wash our hands, and start making our own version of Twix Candy Bar Cake.

For the cake:

1 cup of butter

1 1/2 cup sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

3 large eggs at room temperature

1/2 cup of milk

2 cups all-purpose flour

Pinch of salt

1/2 cup chopped Twix or simply cut the fun size in half

In a large bowl, whisk the butter and sugar until blended. Add the vanilla.

Mix the dry ingredients together (flour and salt). Then rotate, adding the wet and dry ingredients (eggs and milk). Mix until the dough is thick and smooth.

Coat your cake tin with butter then sprinkle with flour. I used a Bundt cake tin. Spread the cake batter in a prepared cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 40 minutes, depending on your pan. For a 6 inch mold, it will take about 25 minutes. With a 9 inch pan, this will take about 40 minutes.

Let the cake cool.

Chocolate icing:

1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/4 milk chocolate chips

1/4 cup heavy whipping cream

Microwave whipping cream in microwave-safe dish for 45 seconds or until heated through. Add chocolate chips and stir until smooth. Let cool for 5 minutes.

1/2 cup butter

1 cup of sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla flavoring

1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar and butter, stirring constantly, until well combined. The caramel will look like it’s getting darker around the edges, so stir it up to be sure you don’t burn your caramel.

Once you have the desired color and consistency, turn off the stove keeping the pot on the stove, add the vanilla and sweetened condensed milk. Let cool for 5 minutes.

To assemble the cake: Place the cooled cake on a serving platter and pour some of the chocolate and caramel frosting over the cake. Place the Twix candy bars on top of the cake and finish pouring the frostings over the cake. To serve.
