Lisamarie Gonzalez, award-winning pastry chef, chocolatier and baker at Stony Brook Hospital, took center stage with pastry chefs, cake designers and decorators at the New York City International Restaurant and Foodservice Show from 8-10 March 2020.

The international cake decorating competition at the Javits Center in New York challenged participants to present their cake decorations, inspired by the Chalkboard theme.

“The whimsical cake I designed has a kiss of earthy tones with a whisper of new age artistic creativity and the sweetness of old school charm,” said Lisamarie Gonzalez. “It was truly an honor to be one of six candidates to be chosen from among all the candidates for the United States.”

She was inspired by many ideas from her family, friends and colleagues and spent many hours practicing her technique before competition. A panel of industry leaders judged cake decorations based on presentation, technique, creativity, cleanliness, and adherence to the theme. Each competitor had three hours to assemble their cake and finish their cake decorating.

Ms. Gonzalez took second place in this international competition – Cake Designer of the Year 2020. As the best and most creative in the industry, she was one of three winners to receive $ 2,800 in checks- cumulative gifts for products from David Rosen Bakery Supply.

A graduate of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Lisamarie has over 20 years of experience in the kitchen. She has received accolades from the Garden City Hotel, the historic NYIT of Seversky Mansion and other competitions at the Javits Convention Center. She continues to impress by winning first place in a pastry competition at the Culinary Philanthropic Society, one of the oldest associations of chefs, cooks, pastry chefs and other culinary specialists in the United States.

“Lisamarie brings great artistic expression to her designs as she loves to wow her clients and we are delighted that she received this well-deserved award for her talents,” said Kevin Daly, Director of Catering for the Student Association of faculty, Stony Brook Hospital.

The competition is hosted by David Rosen Bakery Supply, which has been supplying and distributing baked goods to commercial and home bakers since 1917.
